Over 60 and starting again: what I tell every new client my age

A good number of my clients are over sixty. Some are well over. Nearly all of them came in nervous, because somewhere along the way a doctor, a physio or a well-meaning relative told them to stay away from gyms.
The thing nobody tells you about getting older
From our thirties on we all lose a little muscle every year, and it speeds up after sixty. It is not an illness. It is what muscle does when it is not asked to work. You notice it as a low chair you need a push to get out of, stairs that feel steeper, jars that will not open.
Muscle responds to training at any age. The problem was never age. The problem was that the only strength training on offer was heavy weights, which are intimidating and hard on worn joints.
Why EMS suits older bodies
- The impulse does the heavy lifting. There is no bar on your back and no impact through your knees or hips.
- Every session is one-to-one. Nobody is watching but me, and I am watching every movement.
- Each muscle group has its own dial, so a weak knee or a stiff shoulder is worked gently while the rest works hard.
- Balance improves along with strength. Legs and hips that fire properly keep you steady on uneven ground.
What to do before you book
If you have a pacemaker, a serious heart condition, or you are on regular medication, talk to your GP first and tell me before your trial. We go through a health questionnaire with everyone. Then we start low, and you will be surprised how quickly low becomes not so low.
Your first session is free, and it is only 12 minutes. Book it on WhatsApp or call 086 810 6213.
